Our Story
The inspiration for this collection is deeply personal. We grew up in Sri Lanka during the civil war, surrounded by strong women in a close-knit joint family whose strength, grace and sense of tradition shaped us from an early age.
As teenagers, our elders often discouraged us from wearing sarees, concerned that they might make us appear older or attract unwanted attention during an uncertain time. Yet our fascination with the saree never faded. We admired the elegance and confidence of the women around us and wore sarees whenever we could, especially for school and community functions. The compliments we received only deepened our love for the garment.
As we grew older, that admiration became instinctive. We found joy in dressing the women in our family for weddings and special occasions, from arranging pleats and choosing blouses to styling hair and jewellery. What began as fascination became a form of self-expression and a lasting connection to our heritage.
These memories continue to guide the design philosophy of Nangai Boutique by NanB. Through this collection, we honour the artistry of traditional dress while reimagining it for the modern woman. Each piece carries the memory of where we come from, yet leaves room for the woman who wears it to express where she is going. In this meeting of heritage and modernity, the saree becomes more than a garment: it becomes a living story, shaped anew by every woman who makes it her own.
